Raw honey is pure, unpasteurized and unprocessed, hence it works wonderfully as a beauty ingredient. Unprocessed honey retains all the nutrients and enzymes within. The side effect of having raw honey is the bacterial contamination. So, it is wise to use raw honey as soon as you get. Raw honey is best used as a facial cleanser as it gently removes impurities without stripping off the moisture. It is a great exfoliator and provides a lot of moisture and nourishment to your skin. The anti-bacterial property of raw honey makes it perfect for acne-prone skin. Also, it is a great moisturiser for the dry and mature skin. So, today, I thought of sharing a few ways to use raw honey for a great skin. Read on to know more.
Honey facial cleanser
Honey facial cleanser will help in removing dirt, impurities and excessive oil without stripping off the moisture from the skin. Along with raw honey, the cleanser is loaded with the benefits of a carrier oil and an essential oil as well. This cleanser will keep your skin clean and radiant, but do not expect it to remove your makeup.
How to make: For this honey cleanser, you will need half a cup of raw honey, 3-4 tablespoons of distilled water, 2 tablespoons of a carrier oil and a few drops of an essential oil. If you have dry skin, use a combination of avocado and lavender essential oils. If you have normal skin, opt for jojoba or olive oil and bergamot essential oil, and if you have oily or acne-prone skin, use grape seed oil with tea tree essential oil. So, after finalising your oils, mix all the ingredients together in a soap dispenser. Your honey facial cleanser will be ready. If raw honey is too thick for your liking, use a double boiler to make honey soluble.
Raw honey and sea salt work great as an exfoliator. They help in removing dirt and cleansing the skin while keeping it moisturised. Plus, it can keep acne at bay and your skin healthy.
How to make: Take equal portions of raw honey and sea salt. Add a few drops of lemongrass essential oil and geranium essential oil. Mix all the ingredients and your honey exfoliator is ready. Use it as any other exfoliator on damp skin.
Since some of you can be sceptical about using sea salt on your facial skin, here is another scrub recipe. Raw honey and almond powder will provide a lot of hydration and keep the skin soft.
How to make: For this honey scrub, you need equal portions of raw honey and almond powder. Mix both the ingredients together. Add, the required amount of a carrier oil to make a thick paste and your scrub is ready.
Raw honey and milk provide a lot of hydration and nourishment to the skin. It will make your skin baby soft and smooth. Taking a honey bath every now and then keeps your skin’s oil levels balanced and makes it radiant as well.
How to make: Take half a cup of raw honey and two cups of milk. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil(s). To use this, add the mixture to your bathing water and enjoy.
Honey face pack
Honey is known to provide moisture to dry and mature skin. It also balances oil production on oily skin and keeps acne at bay.
How to make: For dry skin, take equal portions of raw honey, almond paste and mashed papaya. If you have normal skin, then take equal portions of raw honey and milk powder. Take a tablespoon of raw honey, a teaspoon of turmeric powder and a few drops of lemon juice for an oily/acne-prone skin. Mix all the suitable ingredients together and your face pack will be ready.
Overnight spot treatment
Raw honey possesses antibacterial properties and fights acne-causing bacteria. It keeps the skin free from acne and also treats blemishes. On the other hand, salicylic acid in aspirin, too, helps in treating acne.
How to make: Take a tablespoon of raw honey and add 3-4 ground aspirin tablets to it. Mix well and apply to the affected area. Let it sit overnight and wash off the next morning.
Raw Honey for Soft Lips:
Exfoliate your lips by applying a thin layer on the lips before bedtime. You can also make a lip scrub by mixing 1 tbsp of honey with granulated sugar.
Raw Honey to Treat Acne:
Since honey has anti-bacterial properties, it would be a good idea to spot treat breakouts and pimples by applying a thin layer to affected area. You can also mix honey with a pinch of cinnamon powder and leave the pack for 20 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. Do this twice a week.
Raw Honey to Clear Blackheads:
Mix 1 tbsp of raw honey with a few drops of lemon juice and apply on the blackheads. Wipe off with a wet towel after 20 minutes to clear blackheads.
